Arbitration Rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes

International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”) was established in 1966 pursuant to the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (“ICSID Convention”) in the same year. According to article 44 of the ICSID Convention, arbitration of the investment disputes will be administered in accordance to the ICSID arbitration rules. Consequently, the first draft of the mentioned rules was published shortly after the entry into force of the convention, namely in 1967 and it was subsequently reviewed and amended in 1984, 2002 and finally 2006. “ICSID Convention Arbitration Rules” is aimed at paying special attention to the characteristics of investment disputes and the parties involved and, thus, provide a delicate balance between the interests of the host state and private investors. The official version of the rules can be found here.
